A few years ago I was in this place where I wanted to figure out what was really important to me…..
I was tired all the time, pretty unhappy (although I wouldn’t admit it), and kind of frustrated because I felt pretty stuck in my life. I didn’t know what I wanted to be doing and every time I tried to talk about goals with my friends, it just turned into hours of complaining where we were basically complaining about whose life was worse.
WHAT??? Why would I want to win that contest??
Luckily at the time, I had a super supportive therapist that I was going to so I had a safe space to go to where I could explore how I could change my life — I decided to leave my job, move out of NYC, and head to South America for 2 months so I could volunteer and travel.
Honestly, I still had no idea what was really important to me — I knew it was important that I was seen as a “good person” and I loved my family and I knew I just wanted to enjoy life but that was about it. I was hopeful that traveling would bring me some clarity.
Traveling brought me clarity but it wasn’t the way I thought I would get it. I actually figured out what was important to me through the journaling and writing that I did on that trip. A good friend gave me a really nice journal and it motivated me to write about my experiences.
Ironically I really just planned on writing about my trip – you know the meals I ate, the people I met, the sights I was going to see. Nothing too deep or serious.
What happened instead was that the more I wrote, the more clear I got on why I needed this trip and what I wanted out of it. I had all these realizations about the kind of people that I wanted in my life and why they were important to me. I figured out what really mattered. Don’t worry, I’m not going to get into all the details of that but I did realize that some of what was most important to me was authentic connections, freedom + flexibility, and understanding (towards myself and others).
If my friend hadn’t gifted me with that journal, I’m not sure if I would have had the opportunity to figure out what was really important to me in such a deep and honest way. I want you to have that same opportunity which is why I created The Live More E-Course for you.
